Veterinarian Overview
To Dr. Joel Blumberg, being a veterinarian isnt just what he doesits an integral part of who he is. Even as a young boy, Dr. Blumberg never considered doing anything else. Now hes proud to have had a successful veterinary career of over 40 years! Dr. Blumberg was born in Albuquerque, New Mexico and moved to San Jose with his family at the age of four. During high school, he worked on the school ranch over summers and vacations. After graduation, he entered the pre-vet program at the University of California at Davis on multiple scholarships before attending the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine to receive his DVM degree. Dr. Blumbergs goal as a veterinarian is to help add something to a clients relationship with their pet. He also loves problem-solving and working through the difficult challenges certain cases can bring. Over the past 20 years, he has branched out into avian, reptile, and exotic medicine and loves to see the advancements made in these care areas. Dr. Blumberg and his wife live on the Sonoma coast with many dogs, cats, and birds. The head of the household is Magic, their 21-year-old African Grey Parrot. Shes particularly adept at telling the other pets and the Blumbergs how to behave! When hes not working, Dr. Blumberg loves trying his hand at nature photography. He also likes breeding exotic parrots; before moving to the coast, he and his wife built an aviary housing 22 pairs of birds. Dr. Blumberg also enjoys kayaking and rafting.
