Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Mary Diedrich has been working in the veterinary field for 21 years! It was her love of animals that inspired her during high school to become a kennel attendent at the local hospital in McHenry, Illinois where she grew up. She continued to work in various clinics as a receptionist and tech assistant while she earned her BA in Biology from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. After college she moved to California and became a registered veterinary technician (RVT) while working at the UC Davis Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Small Animal ICU. She also worked at Woodland Veterinary Hospital where she was promoted into management as the lead technician. Dr. Diedrich achieved her dream when she graduated from UC Davis Veterinary School in 2008 as a member of the Phi Zeta honor society. After graduating, she completed a 1 year rotating small animal internship at Pet Care Veterinary Hospital in Santa Rosa, CA. Once finished, she decided to brave the cold again and move back to the Chicago area to be closer to her family. For 2 years she worked as an emergency vet at a specialty hospital in the city. She then moved to the suburbs and worked at a small animal general practice for almost 3 years. Dr. Diedrich is happy to be back in sunny and warm California where she has been working at various clinics for the last 2 years both as a general practice and emergency vet. She met Dr. André at one of those practices and is very happy to finally be settling down. She is excited to build her dream hospital with someone who has a shared vision for a low stress clinic that truly puts pets first. Dr. Diedrich has a special affection for her feline patients and its not uncommon to find her cuddling a kitten that shes helped rescue. She is a member of the American Association of Feline Practioners and is really focused on making the clinic a Feline Friendly Practice so that your kitties love seeing us and much as we love seeing them. Dont worry, she loves dogs too! They just tend to be a little more happy to see us naturally. She especially loves large dogs like Labs, Goldens, and Great Danes and is not afraid to get on the floor for a cuddle. She loves Great Pyrenees and has a 115lb Bear who youll see around the clinic that looks like a polar bear but is a giant softie. She also has a special interest in small animal behavior so if you have a question feel free to ask since this is an important part of your pets health too. Dr. Diedrich really enjoys emergency and critical care medicine as well as surgery. She will be staffing the later shift so that we can help care for your animals with any illnesses or injuries in the evening hours. When she is not busy working, she enjoys hiking with her Great Pyrenees named Iorek (aka Bear), sking, camping or backpacking, or relaxing at home with her partner Brad and their 3 cats Maverick, Arya, and Dante.
