Veterinarian Overview
I grew up in a small town in SE Kansas where we always had a dog, cats, even guinea pigs and a ferret. When I was 7 years old I decided to be a veterinarian because I spent my playtime doctoring my stuffed animals. When I was 10 I began working at a local mixed animal practice, and by high school I had a job working in their kennel. I attended Kansas State University where I received a B.S. in animal science in 1999, then a DVM in 2001. Since graduation, I have spent time practicing in exotics medicine, small animal practice, a 24 hour emergency, and shelter medicine. In 2004 I received my certification in veterinary acupuncture from Colorado State University. My areas of special interest include exotic pet medicine, therapy options for arthritis, shelter medicine, nutrition and behavior. My goal is to improve the quality of petsÂ’ lives and enable pet parents to make informed decisions about medical care. My family includes my husband Kel, my son (10), daughter (3), dogs, cats, parrots, reptiles, assorted small mammals and tarantulas. I spend a lot of time volunteering at Peterson Elementary and I enjoy running, hiking, cycling, reading and quilting.
