He graduated from the U of M. College of Veterinary Medicine in 1975. He received the prestigious Upjohn Award for Proficiency in Veterinary Medicine, this award is given to the one senior small animal student who exemplifies excellence in the the small animal discipline, and is voted on by the professors and clinicians at the College. He completed an internship at Colorado State University from 1975-1976. After gaining experience at several small animal hospitals in Portland, Oregon and St. Paul, Mn., he started the Foley Blvd. Animal Hospital in 1981 with one employee, who still works at the clinic as Office Manager, Donna Barr.At Foley Blvd Animal HospitalDr. Barrs focus is on all pets canine and feline, with special interests in the sight hound breeds, with a long term emphasis on the Greyhound. Dr. Barr is proficient in a multitude of specialty surgeries including but not limited to perineal urethrostomies in cats, anal saculectomies, and extra capsular anterior cruciate repair, caesarian sections for whelping and queening dystocias, most soft tissue and some orthopedic procedures. Dr. Barr has also developed a special interest in reproduction, dealing with sterility, both male and female, as well as reproductive counseling.Dr. Barr has been associated with greyhound adoption since 1976; he was involved with the original greyhound retirement group, Regap. Was on the original Board of Directors of Greyhound Pets of America in the early 80s, and in 1996 was involved in the establishment of Northern Lights Greyhound Adoption (NLGA). He became the first President of the organization in 1996, and remains the only President the organization has had. Dr. Barr became a member of the Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service Board of Directors in 2000 and except for one year off in 2007, has been on that board to this date in 2012. He is currently the President of the Board, and has been President since 2009. Dr. Barrs greatest thrill in practice is maintaining quality of life for all the patients at Foley Blvd. Animal Hospital. His personal pride is maintaining an outstanding staff of team members who represent compassion that is unparalleled in Veterinary Medicine, as well as loyalty and longevity. He is of the opinion that the greatest asset any practice has is its staff. This is proven out by the fact that the Foley Blvd. Animal Hospital currently employs five team members who have been with the organization for over 20 years as of 2012, two who have been with the hospital for over 15 years, and five who have been affiliated with FBAH for over 10 years. An investment in experience and quality always pays dividends.
