Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Newell joined Dr. Till in 1973 after graduating from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, making the clinic Till-Newell Animal Hospital. Dr. Newell has been an educator and role model for many young veterinarians through the years. He was selected to serve as one of the first preceptors for the clinical internships of senior veterinary students for the newly established College of Veterinary Medicine at Mississippi State University from 1980-1985. He has been and continues to be very active member of the community and state. Through his and his children's interest in the sport of rodeo, he became greatly involved in the Mississippi and National High School Rodeo Associations. At the state level he served in multiple officer positions to include President of the Mississippi High School Rodeo Board of Directors. He also served as the National Director for Mississippi with the National High School Rodeo Association. Dr. Newell was selected to serve on the Board of the Lauderdale County Agri-Center for 12 years from the inception to the completion of the Center and for five years afterwards. As a Governor appointee, Dr. Newell served on the Mississippi Board of Animal Health from 1983-1991 and the Board of Veterinary Medicine from 1998 to present. After his retirement in 2012, Dr. Newell has returned on a part time basis. He enjoys spending his extra spare time with his five grandchildren.
