Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Janet MerrillÂ’s four Belgian MalinoisÂ’ keep her busy both in and out of work. Janet has been training dogs for search and rescue missions for fifteen years and is a member of both the Massachusetts Task Force 1 and Rhode Island Task Force 1. All four of her dogs have earned their search and rescue certifications. She and her dog Chai were deployed after hurricanes Katrina (2005), Ernesto (2006) and Sandy (2012) as well as after the Springfield, Massachusetts tornado. She was also deployed to Connecticut with her human remains detection dog, Adler, after the gas plant explosion in 2010. When Janet isnÂ’t training dogs, she keeps track of her two sons who are both in the military and changing posts on a regular basis. Her older son, who is a Captain in the Army, was deployed to Afghanistan for a year as a platoon leader and is currently in Special Forces training. Her younger son, also in combat arms, is not far behind and a platoon leader posted to Hawaii. JanetÂ’s husband, Andrew, spends as much time as he can with a fly fishing rod in his hand, dreaming of trophy trout and salmon. The MerrillÂ’s have a family farm in Maine which they frequently visit, keeping busy by either working in JanetÂ’s 60 by 120 foot daylily garden, enjoying their ATVÂ’s or maintaining their tree farm.
