Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Bunni Tan is a general practitioner who joined Greenpoint Veterinary Hospital in April 2010. She grew up in Queens and as a child she read the novels of James Herriot, author of "All Creatures Great and Small." "They involved me in a wonderful world where the lives of animals and people were deeply intertwined—sometimes elbow deep!" Dr. Tan said. "The stories that emerged were alternately hilarious, sweet, poignant, or sad. But they were always memorable." Dr. Tan did her undergraduate work at Brandeis University, where she earned her bachelor's degree in biology and graduated with honors in 1997. As a student, she worked as a kennel assistant at a small animal hospital outside Boston, MA, and she also volunteered at the Brooklyn Animal Resource Coalition shelter in Williamsburg and at North Shore Animal League in Port Washington, Long Island. Dr. Tan earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University in 2001. She has worked at the Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital's full-service veterinary hospital and animal shelter and as an emergency veterinarian in Brooklyn during nights and weekends. Her professional interests include veterinary acupuncture and traditional Chinese medicine. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society. Dr. Tan is also USDA Certified and can provide international health certificates for pet owners who are taking their pets abroad. "Everyday is different, and working with animals is very rewarding," said Dr. Tan. "Every animal and every client has a unique relationship and special bond, and it's important for me to honor and acknowledge that." Dr. Tan has an FIV-positive cat, Herman.
