Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Hansen is a native of Nebraska and has been in the veterinary field for over 30 years. He began his career in 1978 after earning an associates degree from the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture, and working as a veterinary technician in Nebraska. Dr. Hansen went on to earn his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1987. Dr. Hansen has been the owner of Town and Country Animal Clinic, a multi-doctor, small animal practice, since 1997, and has been employed here for over 20 years. Dr. Hansen recognized the importance that oral health care had on the quality of life of pets, and began additional training in veterinary dentistry. In 2001, he became a Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry. In 2006 Dr. Hansen became a Diplomat of the American Veterinary Dental College, in which there are just over 100 of them in the world because it is the most advanced level of certification available in veterinary dentistry; thus allowing Dr. Hansen to state that he is a Veterinary Dental Specialist. Since 2002, Dr. Hansen has been a consultant for veterinary dentistry at both the University at Buffalo laboratory facility and the Buffalo Zoo. He has performed many advanced dental procedures on tigers, lions, bears, gorillas, and many other zoo animals. Dr. Hansen has also attended over 20 veterinary dentistry seminars, had articles published twice in the annual Veterinary Dental Forum, teaches courses at Medaille College, and has presented over 30 lectures and labs to area veterinarians, technicians, students, and groups. Dr. Hansen is a member of the: American Veterinary Medical Association, NYS Veterinary Medical Association, WNY Veterinary Medical Association, Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Niagara Frontier Veterinary Medical Society, American Veterinary Dental Society, Fellow of the Academy of Veterinary Dentistry, and Diplomat of the American Veterinary Dental College. In 1998 he was appointed to the Veterinary Advisory Board of Medaille College Veterinary Technology program. Dr. Hansen resides in North Java, NY with his wife of 21 years, Krista. They spend their free time breeding champion Collies and traveling to multiple dog shows throughout the year. Dr. Hansens love of Collies allowed him to not only become a member of Fund-raiser for Collie Health Foundation, but also in 2002 he was elected to their Board of Directors.
