Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Welch received his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1995. He then went on to complete a one-year small animal rotating internship in medicine and surgery at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital in South Weymouth, MA. From 1997 to 2000, Dr. Welch was a resident in comparative ophthalmology at Iowa State University in Ames, IA. After finishing his residency, he started the ophthalmology service at VCA South Shore Animal Hospital. Dr. Welch was accepted as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in the summer of 2001. Dr. Welch frequently lectures at local, regional and national meetings to veterinarians, students, and technicians. Dr. Welch joined Massachusetts Veterinary Referral Hospital as Medical Director in November 2008. In 2014 Dr. Welch was promoted to Chief Knowledge Officer. Dr. Welch is uniquely qualified to guide the organization to new heights in this field by his tireless approach to developing efficient, novel and customizable learning opportunities for our own veterinary teams and those of non-IVG hospitals.
