Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Persico started as a volunteer at New Hyde Park Animal Hospital. She then moved to our Mineola Animal Hospital as an assistant to Dr. David Kolins. Elyse decided to pursure her dream in Veterinary medicine. She graduated with a B.S. in Zoology and a minor in General Business from The Ohio State University in 2012. She earned her D.V.M. from Western University of Health Sciences in 2016 with unique experiences at the Holland Memorial Military Working Dog Hospital, The Animal Medical Center, Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, Tufts Wildlife Clinic, and a Global Health experience in the jungle and highlands of Peru. She is working on completing her Masters of Public Health (M.P.H.) degree from University of Minnesota in 2017 with a final project focusing on tick-borne pathogens and clinical disease. Dr. Persico has a special interest in both companion and exotic animals as well as zoonotic diseases which can be transmitted between animals and humans. With these interests, she is aiming to complete a board certification as a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine (DACVPM). Member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Long Island Veterinary Medical Association, American Public Health Association and a Professional Affiliate of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
