After graduating University of Pennsylvania Veterinary School, Dr. Kantor completed an internship and surgical residency at the prestigious University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. In 1990 she returned to the states and practiced in Massachusetts, where all three of her sons were born. In 1998 Dr. Kantor returned to New York City where she practiced general medicine until 2006 when she joined Fifth Avenue Veterinary Specialists, working solely as a surgeon until 2014. Dr. Kantors passion for her work extends beyond caring for animals to the people who are family to their pets. She enjoys seeing appointments and getting to know her clients over the years as their pets age. Being accessible for follow up to surgery is critical; it is extremely important to Dr. Kantor that she is accessible to our clients and patients post-operatively. Her surgical specialty includes laser correction of palates and nares for brachycephalic breed dogs. Her 26 years of surgical experience also includes surgical repair of ACL and medial patella luxation, as well as abdominal surgeries and urinary tract surgery in both dogs and cats. Dr. Kantor is passionately committed to volunteering her services to indigent people so they can provide care for their pets. She is an active surgeon for vets international and The Global Alliance for Animals and People (GAAP) in their annual surgical campaign in a Mayan community in Guatemala. Through these organizations she has also been able to serve indigenous peoples pets in Chile. Dr. Kantor is an avid environmentalist and active participant in Riverkeeper, the Hudson River environmental group. She is a lifelong runner and bikes to work most days. Dr. Kantor volunteers at the LES Girls Club, mentoring girls interested in science. She believes strongly in contributing to community and is thrilled to be a member of the LES community. She is excited to be a member of the team at Lower East Side Animal Hospital and helping the community and its families grow through the care of their pets.
