Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Paul Black is the President of Monroe Veterinary Associates and co-director of Pittsford Animal Hospital. Dr. Black attended Sutherland High School in Pittsford and graduated in 1975. After high school graduation, Dr. Black moved to Ithaca, NY where he attended Cornell University. After three years of undergraduate studies, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Biological Sciences. Dr. Black did not need to travel very far in order to attend veterinary school. He was admitted to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, and after 4 years of rigorous studies, he was awarded his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1982. During his years at Cornell, Dr. Black excelled academically. As an undergraduate student, he was a member of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Honor Society. As a veterinary student, he received the Upjohn Award for Small Animal Clinical Proficiency. Dentistry, general surgery, internal medicine and feline geriatrics are among Dr. Black's many professional interests. Dr. Black is an active member of several local and national veterinary organizations. In 1988, he was named "Veterinarian of the Year" by the Rochester and Monroe County Humane Society. He has been a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association since 1982, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society since 1982, the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medical Association since 1982, the Cornell Feline Health Center since 1992, and the American Animal Hospital Association since 1994. He is also a member of the American Veterinary Dental Society. As a member of the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medical Association, he served on the Executive Board from 1990-1993, 1995-1997, 1998-2000 and was elected president in 1999. Dr. Black also serves as president of the board of directors of Rochester Hope for Pets.
