Veterinarian Overview
Kristy Walter, DVM to Ironstone Veterinary Hospital! Dr. Walter takes a practical approach to treating her patients, using a stepwise approach to choose diagnostics and treatments that will yield the most information or results. By fostering strong relationships with pets and their owners shes able to design achievable treatment plans or lifestyle changes because the pet owners abilities and lifestyle are taken into account. Dr. Walter recognizes the human-animal bond and appreciates our ability to form close attachments to any species; therefore every animal, be it a mouse, a snake, or a dog and everything in between, receives the same consideration and respect. She has 8+ years experience working with exotic and pocket pets including advanced surgeries and acupuncture. Aside from being practical, Dr. Walter s approach to medicine is integrative which combines conventional medicine with complimentary and alternative therapies. She also has a special interest in pain management. Dr. Walter received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine at Virginia Tech in 2008 and her certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture (cVMA) from Colorado State University in 2013. In 2015 she completed a certificate in pain management medicine through the University of Tennessee. Dr. Walter strives to reduce stress in pets (and owners) at every visit, part of which has earned her the nickname Dr. Cookie because of her liberal use of treats. She grew up in the Green Lane area, where she now resides with her husband and three cats. When shes not at work, Dr. Walter can be found digging in her garden, up-cycling found treasures, hiking or fishing with her husband.
