Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Ed Payne attended the University of Buffalo where he completed his Bachelors of Physical Anthropology and Comparative Anatomy in 1998. With the plan of teaching in a university setting Dr Payne completed his Masters program in scientific educations at the University of Buffalo. Dr. Payne then attended Michigan State University and obtained his Doctoral Veterinary Medicine degree in 2004, and remained to complete a one-year Emergency and Critical Care Internship. Dr. Payne was then accepted and performed a 3-year Emergency and Critical Care Residency at Veterinary Specialist of South Florida. While at VSSF Dr. Payne honed his skills as a mentor and educator by being elected head resident and was asked to be assistant intern director because of his educational experience. While he was in his residency he developed a special interest in hemodialysis and renal failure. At that time his facility was one of 6 in the country performing hemodialysis. With this experience he was recruited to participate in multiple hemodialysis teams in both the private practice and university settings. Dr. Payne was the Head of the Emergency and Critical Care services in multi-specialty practices in New Jersey and the Chicago area before joining VREC in September, 2015. Dr. Payne is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Critical Care Medicine, New Jersey Veterinary Medical Association, and Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. Dr. Paynes personal interests are weight lifting, football and spending time with his family.
