Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Brown obtained his DVM from The Ohio State University in 1965 and became a Board Certified Veterinary Surgeon in 1971. Following his residency at the prestigious Animal Medical Center (AMC) in New York, he served as AMC's service head of orthopedics from 1968 to 1972. In 1972, Dr. Brown came to the Bay Area as a founding member of the Berkeley Veterinary Medical Group with Drs. Stephen Ettinger, Ray Roberts, and James W. Ticer. He opened the Veterinary Orthopedic & Surgery Service in September 1975 in San Jose and now practices in Fremont.Dr. Brown is a clinical professor for the College of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences. He mentors the students' surgical rotations and spends time every day reviewing surgical texts and procedures with these upcoming veterinarians.Dr. Brown is an avid Irish Setter fan. He has written a variety of veterinary related articles for the Irish Setter Club of America (ISCA). He has also proudly served as a sweepstakes judge in a variety of dog shows for Irish Setters, Gordon Setters, Greyhounds, and Golden Retrievers. He has contributed to primary research to unravel DNA markers for Canine Epilepsy and Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy (HOD).Dr. Brown enjoys gardening, attending dog shows, and Irish Setters. He is a very active grandparent.
