Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Melissa McCormick performed her undergraduate studies at Louisiana State University and continued on to the L.S.U. School of Veterinary Medicine earning her DVM in 1997. She spent her first 13 years in practice locally in the Hammond area in a small animal practice. That practice was voted Daily Stars "Best Veterinary Practice" every year she was there. She also taught private obedience lessons and obedience classes during that time. She joined Hickory Small Animal Hospital just a year after we opened and continues to practice with us full time. Although Dr. McCormick does not have time to continue teaching obedience lessons, she has a strong interest in canine and feline behavior and is passionate about proper socialization of puppies and kittens to ensure a well adjusted life ahead. Her goal is to always treat her patients with the same care and compassion as her own animals and offer the best preventive care to keep those you love happy and healthy for as long as possible. Dr McCormick is a member of the American Animal Hospital Association, Louisiana Veterinary Medical Association, Americal Association of Feline Practitioners, Louisiana Academy of Veterinary Practitioners, American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior and has completed the Karen Pryor Academy Puppy Start Right Course for Instructors. She also heads the annual Santa Paws fundraiser benefitting our local rescue groups. You can schedule an appointment with Dr McCormick on Monday, Thursday and Friday.
