Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Charpentier attended the University of Connecticut for her undergraduate studies. She graduated from the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1979. Dr. Charpentier is originally from Lunenburg, a small town in North-Central Massachusetts. Her parents, most of her five siblings and her many nephews and a niece reside in Massachusetts and New Hampshire where she loves to visit them. She has one brother who resides in New Zealand (when he isnt working in Antarctica) but she doesnt get to visit with him very often! She and her husband, Roger, share their home with Billy, an African grey parrot. In 1987 Dr. Charpentier became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, certified in Canine and Feline Practice. Re-certification is required every 10 years and she has re-certified twice. This makes her one of only about 460 Canine/Feline ABVP Diplomates in the United States and abroad. Dr. Charpentier has been an owner/partner in Clark Animal Care Center since 1988. Her professional special interests include endoscopy- flexible gastrointestinal endoscopy as well as the use of rigid scopes in rhinoscopy, cystoscopy, and laparoscopy. She also has a special interest in avian medicine. She enjoys the diagnostic challenges of internal medicine. Surgical interests include the performance of a variety of soft tissue procedures and cranial cruciate repair. Dr. Charpentier has served as a Member of the New York State Board for Veterinary Medicine since 2007 (currently as Chair). This Board is appointed by the State of NY and is dedicated to public protection and quality professional preparation and conduct. The BVM advises and assists the Board of Regents and the State Education Department on matters of professional regulation. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Charpentier loves nature, animals, and being in the out-of-doors. Hiking, snowshoeing, camping, backpacking, kayaking and solo canoeing are all pursuits that she enjoys. She is an enthusiastic member of the Adirondack Mountain Club and has served in many capacities in the local chapter including Treasurer, Vice-Chair, Chair, Programs Chair and Outdoor Expo Volunteer Coordinator. She is honored to have been chosen to be a member of the Genesee Valley Chapters High Summit Honor Society, which acknowledges those members of the Chapter whose volunteer efforts over many years have consistently exceeded all expectations. Travel is another interest and she especially enjoys travel off the beaten path. Her adventures have included climbing to the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro, hiking through the Himalyas to Everest Base Camp, and kayaking in the fiords of southern Greenland. Closer to home, Dr. Charpentier has completed the Finger Lakes Trail End-to-End hike, which is approximately 575 miles. Reading both fiction and non-fiction is a lifelong love and she is never far from a good book. Dr. Charpentier is proud to be a veterinarian at Clark Animal Care Center, where she is continually challenged to be the very best doctor that she can be.
