Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Anna Payne grew up in Farmington, NY on a family farm and decided (or was told?) that she would be a veterinarian at a very young age. She was inspired by her grandfather and aunt (who is also a veterinarian), and by growing up on James Herriot's stories. Dr. Paynes undergraduate degree is from Cornell University where she majored in Animal Science and graduated 2013. While there she was on the Women's Varsity Crew Team for four years and spent summers working on dairy and sheep farms in the Finger Lakes/Western NY area and also at Cornell's swine farm. While attending veterinary college at Cornell, Dr. Payne did externships in small animal general practice, mixed animal ambulatory in central NY, R-VETS (Rural Veterinary Experience Training and Service) in South Dakota working with horses on Native American reservations. She also did shelter externships (both in the US and Cozumel, Mexico), and at a dairy practice in California. Her interests are in farm animal medicine, herd management, small animal GP, reproduction, and the list goes on! Dr. Payne enjoys traveling, both all around the US and internationally. She has visited Germany, France, Italy, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico and England, where she even got to visit Thirsk and the James Herriot museum and surgery! She is hoping her next big trip will be to Africa. In her free time, Dr. Payne enjoys hiking, campfires, watching sports, working out and spending time with her friends and great big family. Daily cuddles with her mixed-breed dog, Rufus, are a must. She is very excited to be at EVC and is looking forward to getting to know the clients and patients!
