Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Whitman joined the Creature Comforts team in 2017. Like many in this field, he has been immersed in animal care since childhood. His family home in northern NJ was shared with animals of every shape and size, from dogs, cats, and parrots, to fish, small mammals, and too many reptiles to count. Dr. Whitman attended the University of Vermont where he received his Bachelors Degree in Animal Science in 2007. He then went on to earn his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 2013. Dr. Whitman is passionate about exotic pet medicine, conservation medicine, and wildlife rehabilitation. During veterinary school he took every available opportunity to study exotics, and completed a preceptorship at the Denver Zoo. Dr. Whitman is a licensed New York State Wildlife Rehabilitator with a focus on conserving local snake and turtle species. He has volunteered with the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program caring for injured birds of prey, and also spent a season at the New England Aquarium working to rehabilitate endangered sea turtles and other marine wildlife. Dr. Whitman is active in Northeast Partners for Amphibian and Reptile Conservation (NEPARC) where he is a member of both the steering committee and the emerging disease working group. At home he maintains and breeds an extensive collection of reptiles and amphibians.
