Veterinarian Overview
Although Steves parents did not farm, he grew up working on his uncles farms surrounded by all kinds of four- legged animals. It was through this experience and under the mentorship of the local veterinarian, Dr. Bob Morris, a James Herriott -like veterinarian, that he developed his interest in veterinary medicine. While in veterinary school at Purdue University, the horse became his primary species of interest. Upon graduation in 1971, he entered mixed practice with the equine as his focus. Over the years, Steve moved into an equine only practice and came east in 1988 to further pursue this goal. Although a general equine doc, he developed particular interest in lameness and poor performance, focusing much of his attention in this area. He has participated in many equine sports directly and indirectly through his four daughters, who have all been avid riders in everything from dressage to barrel racing. When not involved with ECO he likes to spend his time with Kathy, his significant other, traveling, gardening or just hanging out. Steve also likes to keep up with his daughters, his two grandsons (soon to be three) and all of their activities. He also enjoys basketball and a good book. He appreciates the fact that he has been blessed to be in a profession that has put him in contact with many fascinating people, their animals and their experiences.
