Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Berman was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia. He remembers hiking along the Blue Route before it was completed with his black Labrador Retriever when he was in elementary school. He continued his investigation of the woods of Montgomery County, PA with other family dogs and also became involved in horseback riding. In 1980, his horse survived being hit by a car and his experience with the veterinarian who cared for his horse solidified his belief that he, too, would be a veterinarian one day. After graduating from Harriton High School in 1985, Dr. Berman attended the University of Michigan (Go Blue!) and graduated in 1989 with a BA in General Studies and a minor in Music. From 1989 to 1991, he attended the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA where he majored in Guitar Performance and Film Scoring.Realizing that veterinary medicine was calling, Dr. Berman began working as a veterinary technician in the Emergency Services Department at the Veterinary Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. This led to his acceptance into Penn's veterinary school and he graduated with the Class of 1998. Following veterinary school, Dr. Berman completed a one year rotating internship in medicine and surgery at the Veterinary Referral Hospital in Gaithersburg, MD. After working at a private small animal hospital in Frederick, MD, Dr. Berman returned to the Philadelphia area.
