Veterinarian Overview
Montclair State University, BS in Biology in 1997 The Ohio State University, DVM in 2001 Dr. Tim Van Grouw grew up in northern New Jersey. His brother operated a dairy farm there, and Dr. Van Grouw gained experience by riding around each week with his brother's veterinarian. After three or so years of this weekly veterinary observation, he and the vet had an especially difficult, lengthy, and dirty calving. Afterwards the vet said, "If this calving hasn't convinced you to not be a vet, you'll do fine!" Dr. Van Grouw always thought of himself as a cow doctor, but he has come to enjoy the diversity of this practice: horses, sheep, goats, llamas, and alpacas. Dr. Van Grouw is a certified veterinarian for the PA Johnes Disease Control Program. He also has a developing interest in organic dairy medicine. Caring for neonates (like baby foals, calves, and crias) is one of Dr. Van Grouw's favorite parts of his job. There is nothing quite as satisfying as seeing a sick baby animal recover from birthing-related issues or debilitating disease early in its life. Landscaping, photography, and home improvements keep Dr. Van Grouw busy. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, his two sons, and two cats.
