Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Joe A. Fong is a General Practitioner and Medical Director here at Irving Pet Hospital. He attended UC Berkeley for his undergraduate studies where he majored in Integrated Science and minored in Asian American History. He graduated with a BS in Integrated Science in 1993 and three years later began his veterinary studies at UC Davis where he earned a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. He has been with us since May of 2007. Dr. Fong is also a member of the California Veterinary Medical Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association. A native San Franciscan, Dr. Fong says he could not imagine life as anything other than a veterinarian. "There is an honesty that animals bring to our lives," he says. "They accept us for who we are and don't judge. It is that bond and the excitement of science and medicine that makes every day a new day." Most of all, Dr. Fong enjoys being involved with the patients from the time they are a kitten or puppy through to adulthood and their senior years and in need of a bit more veterinary care. At home, Dr. Fong has a number of pets that he and his wife enjoy taking care of. These are a Great Dane named Dottie, an Akita/Shepherd cross named Tonka, a Rag Doll Cat named Jake, and two chickens named Ling Ling and Huey.
