Veterinarian Overview
Dr. Kathleen Dougherty is a Kensington native and attended the University of Maryland at College Park, where she graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. Degree in Animal Science. Following her undergraduate studies, she was admitted to the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 1982. Throughout her university career Dr. Dougherty received awards for her academic achievements. At the University of Maryland she was a member of the National Honor Society, the Freshman Honor Society, Biology Honor Society, made Dean's List and graduated summa cum laude. At the University of Florida she was inducted into the National Veterinary Honor Society. Dr. Dougherty maintains membership in several veterinary organizations, including the DC Academy of Veterinary Medicine, Maryland Veterinary Medical Association, Florida Veterinary Medical Association and the DC Veterinary Medical Association. With professional interests in endocrinology and dermatology, she is a past diplomate and member of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. As a USDA-accredited veterinarian, she is licensed to issue international veterinary health certificates. Dr. Dougherty is a veterinarian and the owner of Kenwood Animal Hospital. Her husband, Thomas, is an attorney for the federal government, and together they have three sons: Ryan, Patrick and Kevin. The Dougherty family also has a cat named Simba and a rescued hound named Ruby.
